Registration deadline approaching for international empathy conference
Time is running out to register for a groundbreaking international conference which will drive forward empathic healthcare.
Some of the world’s greatest champions of treating patients with empathy will share their expertise with healthcare professionals, researchers and educators at this year’s Global Empathy in Healthcare Network symposium in Leicester.
Featuring plenary sessions with award-winning speakers, masterclasses, workshops and debates, attendees will learn how compassionate, patient-centred care can be fostered in an increasingly digital world.
Attendees have until Friday, August 1, to secure their place at the two-day event which will take place on Monday, September 15, and Tuesday, September 16.
Professor Jeremy Howick, director of the Stoneygate Centre for Empathic Healthcare at the University of Leicester, and co-founder, with Catherine Eyres, of the Global Empathy in Healthcare Network, said:
“We are living in an era of technological advancements and this can lead to impersonal, tech-driven healthcare environments.
“It is vital that we overcome the barriers this can present to human connection because evidence shows that empathic healthcare improves patient outcomes and helps to enhance healthcare practitioners’ wellbeing and protects them from burnout.
“This symposium will give healthcare professionals, researchers and educators an incredible opportunity to learn from the very best empathic healthcare experts from around the world.
“If you want to discover how to integrate empathy into digital platforms and learn how to put empathic, patient-centred care into practice you should not miss this event.”
The conference’s award-winning plenary speakers will include CBS News’ Chief Medical Correspondent Jonathan LaPook who is Professor of Medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, an internist and gastroenterologist at NYU Langone Health, and the Founder and President of the NYU Langone Empathy Project.
Leading experts from around the world will also deliver a series of insightful masterclasses and there will be a debate entitled ‘AI care- and chat-bots cannot provide empathic care’.
The Global Empathy in Healthcare Network Symposium is being delivered in association with the International Association for Communication in Healthcare (EACH).
